THE BUDO-CRAFTMANS ONLINE SHOP
Handcrafted budo tools - where two ancient traditions meet.
Budo, the Japanese way of the warrior. Sloyd, the Swedish way of the craftsman.
Here you will find wooden practice weapons of varying kinds, each made with quality and heart, from wood chosen and prepared for both durability and aesthetics. These items are made by traditional methods, and by a single artisan, a woodworking teacher with many years of experience both in budo and as a craftsman in the sloyd tradition.
The budo-tools you find here are all an expression of Keiko - practice and exploration - along both the path of both budo and sloyd. The shape and feeling of the budo tools were guided not only by the craftsman´s own years of practice, but also by the collective experience and insight of an entire dojo; each model passes through the dojo in all its iterations. They are passed around, handled, discussed and tested in training, and any insight gained goes into the next iteration. Likewise, the actual crafting has been supported not only by the craftsman's own experience, but also by peers and elders of the sloyd tradition, who has provided insights ranging from the proper drying of wood to the nuances of surface treatment.
All in all, owning one of these budo tools means not only to support a single artisan and Bujinkan practitioner, but also to hold the work of two venerable living traditions in ones hand - and feeling the difference.
